As we wind down for the year, this week I'm going to share my favourite articles I have written this year in 2023! After 8 years of LLIFS I always worry I'll run out of things to write about but it is the opposite. So many choices, and so many questions!
In all honesty, when I was scrolling through the year that was and re-reading the articles and research, it was really hard to pick favourites. Everything I write about intrigues me in some way and I put my heart and soul into every word I write so every article is close to me and could be on my favourites list. Anyway, I had to make a list so these are the ones I guess I am most proud of. They steer away from a lot of the typical articles you might see circulating on blogs and I always try to offer something a little different. I hope you have enjoyed 2023 with LLIFS and there is plenty more to come in 2024. Thank you for your support and friendship and I can't wait to see what we uncover and explore together in 2024!
Researchers from 100 years ago speculated there was a network of mediums that collated and shared information in the 'Blue Book' to assist their readings. In the modern world, our digital imprint is much easier to find. What happens when you have AI and machine learning in the mix?
A popular image often circulates across paranormal social media supposedly explaining why a ghost could walk through walls. It is actually a picture from the widely popular World of the Unknown:Ghosts book. Let's look at it and the theory behind it a little closer.
I challenge AI to discuss the benefits and downfalls of using AI for paranormal research, more specifically in data collection and analysis.
I recently rewatched the classic horror movie The Tingler from 1959 which is all about fear and it got me thinking. As investigators, we speak often about how much the power of suggestion can influence a person. How much of what we experience is us feeding off the fear of the other people with us?
Is a drop in temperature a sign of something paranormal? Psychical Researchers would observe temperature drops when observing psychic mediumship demonstrations. We then fast forward to modern-day paranormal investigating and look at what natural explanations can cause us to feel these cold spots and the best way to measure them.
While reality television portrays paranormal experiences to often be scary with encounters with demons and negative entities, the reality is quite different. Paranormal interaction doesn't have to be negative!
When we talk about apparitions, it is time to think beyond the typical 'full-bodied apparition' that many paranormal investigators talk about. It is the apparitions of living people that I am most fascinated with as it challenges the typical viewpoint of what a ghost is. These fall under the category of experimental apparitions. Let's look at this as well as thoughtforms, tulpas and the infamous Philip experiment!
A trip to the dentist is terrifying enough. Clients of Dr. Karl Bachseitz soon found another reason to be scared of a trip to his dental surgery in Neutraubling, Germany. A talking ghost who referred to himself as Chopper!
IR Cameras, Thermal cameras and now LiDAR are all technologies paranormal investigators use to try and map figures in the dark. Will HADAR (Heat-Assisted Detection And Ranging) be the next big thing in this area?
There are a lot of stigmas associated with the paranormal. Let's start to break down two of the most popular ones by understanding their true nature, without the embellishment from Hollywood.
