Do paranormal investigators attract activity?

Is there paranormal activity occurring at a location because it is haunted, or is it occurring because you are there?

This is a question friends and I have often asked ourselves. In my experience, when you get a specific group of people together in a so called haunted location, something seems to happen. I was lying in bed the other night watching old very bad episodes of paranormal state. Ryan was doing his usual spiel about demons following him and calling him to certain locations and making all of the hauntings about it being somehow connected to him and not the clients he was supposed to be helping. At one point in an episode he said something that made me sit up in the bed and start thinking again. Something along the lines of “Is this stuff happening at this moment because it is just happening or is it because we are here?” Good question Ryan, good question.

This is a discussion I have had with various other people in the paranormal field and they all agree. When you get the right mix of open/sensitive people together in a room trying to communicate, something generally happens. I wouldn’t say that it is absolutely every single occasion as there are nights that are quiet and nothing happens, but more often than not something does.

If we break it down, most paranormal groups will have at least one person in the group who is what I would call a ‘sensitive’. Maybe they can see spirits, hear them, get mental images, pick up on their feelings, their energy etc. Some are more sensitive than others. These people are like a beacon to the other side. I feel like that the spirits can sense this in their energy and gravitate to them to try and get some sort of message across as they feel this is their opportunity. Have you noticed it is always these people that seem to have the most experiences? The more highly sensitive people and even those that are mediums, don’t usually have the luxury to switch this ability off. It is with them 24/7 and they have to deal with it not only during an investigation, but in their daily lives. Sure they learn how to protect and block things so that they can go about their daily business, but they are still a beacon for this. Put them in a room at a location and if there is something there, they will most likely have something trying to get their attention. The more people that are in the group that are sensitive etc, the more chance I guess there is of something coming out to play. This is just my opinion and yes I believe investigators can attract activity.

I suppose you could also take it from a skeptical point of view as well. You put a group of people in a room together who are looking for some sort of paranormal encounter. They are searching for this so badly that any noise, any odd feeling is automatically passed off as being paranormal when in reality maybe they haven’t eaten all day and are a bit light headed and a gust a wind rattled against a window. A perfect example I can use on myself is that I am long sighted and need glasses. I don’t need to wear them all the time, mainly just for computer and television but I can usually tell when I need to or not. When I am tired, if I am not wearing my glasses I get headaches because my eyes are working too hard. Usually I will be wearing my glasses during an investigation especially if it is an all nighter for this reason. Say I wasn’t wearing my glasses and I was in a room and I suddenly started getting a headache. I could sit there and say oh this room is giving me a headache. In reality it could just mean I need to take a panadol and put my glasses on.

Overall again it all comes down to the person and the people that are with you thinking with a clear rational but also open mind. Of course something could be paranormal, however a paranormal investigator needs to step back from the situation and take all things into account before jumping to conclusions. Once all rational has been debunked and you are still left with an experience, own it. I must say though that sometimes you just know. I have had things happen to me before where I have questioned am I feeling this way because of this reason etc and there has been a question mark over my experience. If there is a question mark I think it should be thrown out. There are times however when I can tell you without a doubt in my mind that it was something else. Whether you believe me or not is up to you but for me in those small few instances I just know and I own it. It is these moments that keep me out there investigating. That gut feeling there is something more. If I didn't have these experiences from time to time, I am not sure if I would still be doing it after all these years.

What else I know is that within my small group of paranormal peeps, when a particular 3 of us get together during an investigation, we know we are in for something. Again it comes down to trusting the people you are with to not only help you if you are in trouble, but also trusting that they are telling the truth, not over exaggerating and making things out of nothing. Paranormal investigators are in search of something, and a lot of the time we do actually find it. It is proving it that is a different story.
